HR execs could face jail time over illegal hiring

An Illinois company was recently raided by the government for hiring undocumented workers. The kicker:
The HR manager and two other HR reps face criminal charges over the incident.
Agriprocessors, a Pottsville, IA-based meat processing plant, was charged with intentionally hiring illegal immigrants, as well as committing child labor violations.
Allegedly, the HR employees helped the undocumented workers fill out phony paperwork, despite knowing they weren’t authorized to work.
They face misdemeanor charges that could result in up to 30 days in jail and a $625 fine for each charge.

Good, I’m glad they are facing criminal charges, assuming that they actually did intentionally hire the illegal immigrants. What were they thinking? People like them make HR look like a shady profession. However, as they are finding out here in AZ with our workplace raids under the Legal Arizona Workers Act/Employer Sanctions Law, it is quite difficult to actually prove that the hiring was intentional. If the employer can show that the I-9’s were completed (even if it was done with false documentation) how are they going to prove that it was actually intentional hiring instead of the employee pulling a fast one?

Well if they are actually guilty of the charges then they get what they deserve, in my book they should have more severe penalties for such actions!
